We are New York's foremost experts in Men's Garment Alterations, with over 30 years' experience. We are recognised for our meticulous attention to detail, reasonable prices and excellent customer service. As our Tailors are Bespoke Suit makers by trade, we are able to provide the highest quality alterations using traditional and perfected techniques unlike dry cleaners or other companies that use unqualified staff to perform alterations using unorthodox techniques that produce poor quality results. What sets us apart is our ability to work to a factory finish which means that any alterations we perform to your garment will be unnoticeable and untraceable; the original stitch pattern, thread colour and any detail will be matched perfectly.

If you have a suit that hangs off you rather than compliments you, then let our Master Tailors re-cut your suit. The quality of work we provide is unlike any other. We pay close attention to ensure that the end result is a suit that has been tailor made for you. We ensure that every detail from the original suit is retained from the stitch patterns used to the colour of the thread. The result is a perfectly fitting suit without any hint that the suit has been altered.
For trousers that are loose or tight on the waist, we can quickly and effectively reduce or increase size by adjusting the centre back seam. After a fitting with our Master Tailor, we can also determine the perfect shape of the seat and raise or let down the fork when necessary. For a closer fit and neater silhouette, we taper (narrow) trousers either fully or partly. For a subtle taper, we would remove excess fabric from the inside leg seam. For a more drastic change, we can reduce the leg width by removing fabric from both the inside and outside leg seams. We shorten trousers by hand so that the stitching is invisible from the outside. We can replace belt loops with more traditional side adjusters by using excess fabric from the hem of the trouser.
When shortening jeans, we are able to retain a pre-worn finish by cutting away the original hem and reinstating it at the required length. When tapering (narrowing) jeans, we pay close attention that the original stitching and thread colour is matched perfectly. We can also replace lost jean buttons and rivets.
Coat / Jacket Alterations
To improve the fit of your coat or jacket we can take in the side seams or rear centre seam for a flattering fit. We can also shorten the length of your coat or sleeves ensuring the original stitch pattern, thread colour and any detail are matched perfectly. When shortening the sleeves of a coat we can offer two options. We can shorten from the crown (shoulder) or from the sleeve end. As professional tailors with over 30 years of experience, we would recommend shortening from the crown as the most effective way of achieving a flawless result. Working from the shoulder means that the cuff detail or ‘shams’ are not disturbed and consequently the design and proportions of the coat or jacket have remained original. We can narrow or ‘chip’ the shoulders of a jacket or coat for a neater fit or add pads to define the silhouette or even out a dropped shoulder. A ripple of excess fabric across the back neck area or ‘Square back neck’ can be removed by simply opening the back neck and shoulder seam, lifting excess fabric and re-stitching as original for a more complimentary fit on the body. If your jacket or coat has a worn lining we can replace your existing lining with either a close resembling colour, or replace it with a colour of your choice adding more pockets or detail at your request. Zip replacement or buttons are of course basic alterations that we are happy to perform.
If you do not like the general fit of your shirt there are a number of shirt alterations that are possible. Shirt sleeves can, of course, be shortened – you just take off the cuff, cut down the sleeve and reattach (this can even be done from the shoulder if you want to retain the length of the placket). But sleeves with double cuffs can also be lengthened slightly. Depending on the brand, there is at least half an inch of inlay, which can be sufficient to give you that crucial exposure of cuff at the end of a jacket’s sleeve. Darts can be added to the body of a shirt, to narrow it at the waist and – depending on the run – alter the hips and a little of the chest. This will remove any excess fabric which can be annoying and unflattering to your figure.
Leather Alterations and Repairs
If your leather jacket does not fit you as it should or is ripped then we have the skills to alter or repair it for you correctly. It is important that leather alterations are always undertaken by professionals as leather alterations that are not performed correctly can ruin your garment and are nearly always irreversible. A tear or rip does not need to mean the end of a leather jacket or coat. Our skilled Tailors have the ability to replace panels and use specialised techniques to restore your leather jacket or coat to its original condition.
Tuxedo Alterations / Dinner Suit Alterations
A well-fitting Tuxedo or Dinner suit is going to look far better than an ill-fitting one made with a high-quality material. With over 30 years' experience in Tuxedo Alterations and Dinner Suit Alterations, Alterations Boutique Ltd has the expertise to alter your Dinner Suit to perfection. As well as altering Dinner suits that don't fit you, we can restyle them to give them a more contemporary appearance. If you have a Dinner Suit that hangs off you rather than compliments you, then let our Master Tailors re-cut your Dinner suit. The quality of work we provide is unlike any other. We pay close attention to ensure that the end result is a Dinner suit that has been tailor made for you. We ensure that every detail from the original suit is retained from the stitch patterns used to the colour of the thread. The result is a perfectly fitting Dinner suit without any hint that the Dinner suit has been altered. This meticulous attention to detailis what makes us unique.
Morning Suit Alterations
When it comes to wearing a Morning Suit, the fit should always be your priority; poor fit will quickly outweigh the advantages of even the most finely made garment. There are several key areas to focus on in terms of assuring that after a few alterations, you will have a beautifully tailored Morning Suit. This meticulous attention to detail is what makes us unique.
A waistcoat should be snug and fit close to the body. It should not be so tight that it pulls and it should cover the waistband of your trousers and never let any shirt show. We can take in the waistcoat and adjust the armholes to ensure the fit is tailored but not uncomfortable and if required, we can shorten the waistcoat too. We can also replace the back panel of lining with a similar colour or you can choose from hundreds of different colours from our lining books.
